Besides和except是「包含」和「不包含」的概念

   如果John當時說的是：”Besides Sean and Tina, who else would come?”
   那才是說Sean和Tina也會參加聚餐。

举例细讲

Besides和except是「包含」和「不包含」的概念，看看這兩個句子：

Besides passion, a successful person will also have qualities like vision and time management.（一個成功的人士除了熱情之外，還兼具遠見和時間管理的特質。）

I like the smartphone except for its poor Wi-Fi connection.（除了無線收訊很爛之外，我滿喜歡這隻手機的。）

「除了…」還有這些用法：

1.in addition to：
In addition to its amazing functions, the product’s appearance seized everyone’s attention on the day it was released.（除了令人讚嘆的功能外，這項產品的外型在推出的第一天即吸引大眾的目光。）

和besides一樣，in addition to…有「包含…在內」的意思。Addition前面的add字首就是「加上」，addition是名詞，指增加的事物。

Other than the terms above, we accept your offer.（除了以上的條款外，我們接受你的提議。）

3.apart from/aside from
這兩個用法比較中性，兩種特性一次兼具，就要看說話的時候想要表達的是什麼意思。

Apart/aside from a few scratches, the car was undamaged.（除了幾道刮痕，車子沒有什麼損傷。）
Apart/aside from being too small, the location of this apartment is not ideal.（這間公寓不只太大，地點也不理想。）
